"If anyone would come after me. He must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me, for whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. Mathew 16:24-25

The Lord's Supper

A couple of years back my Church Camp placed particular emphasis on the Lord's prayer which helped me to understand and pay attention to it's meaning. This is my interpretation and goal when I read it. I hope this can help you and bless you as well!

Your Kingdom come
Your will be done
On earth like it is in heaven
Give us this day
Our daily Bread
And forgive us our debts
As we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom
And the power
And the glory
Forever
Amen!

The first two lines is the author giving control to God, Jesus is giving up his own fleshy desires and letting his Father God guide him and lead him in life. but Jesus is talking about far more than himself, no Jesus is also asking for God's will on earth, his plan for life to go as he has planned it. Notice how Jesus says "on earth as it is in heaven" Just think about how God's will is carried out in heaven. i'm sure everyone in heaven knows and understands the importance of God's will to be carried out and we can see that reading the Bible from many of God's angels caring out his commands. I'm sure everything that God willed in heaven was carried out and obeyed swiftly. Think about the what our daily bread means. It could be literal but I also believe Jesus planned this as figurative as well. I think he was asking God to daily fill us up with God's spirit and his wisdom. The next two lines about forgiveness is asking God to forgive us like we forgive our neighbors (anyone around us). The next lines are asking God to lead us on righteous paths and to rescue us from evil. The next lines show Jesus's faith and confidence in the power and goodness of God and that he will last forevermore.
So the next time you read this don't just go through the motions, but think about the meanings and implications the prayer has and adopt this prayer as your own. Intend to follow it as Jesus did.
1. God's will be done in your life and the world
2. May God fill us with his spirit and wisdom
3. Help us to forgive our neighbors so that God may forgive us
4. ask God to steer us away from temptation and rescue us from evil
5. Confess God's power and might and pledge faithfulness to him
